Your introduction to Acres of Green

A better lawn begins with a better relationship.

You're not simply hiring someone to treat your grass. You're choosing a partner to care for a valuable part of your home. Here's what we believe, how we work, and how we can create something beautiful together.

Locally owned. Personally accountable.

A note from Brian

Lawn care should feel personal.

I started Acres of Green because I believed homeowners deserved something better than rushed visits, vague answers, and one-size-fits-all programs.

I believe you should know who's caring for your lawn. You should understand what we're doing and why. And you should have confidence that the person making recommendations has your lawn's long-term health at heart.

My goal isn't simply to earn your business. It's to earn your trust, season after season.

— Brian Calkins, Owner

The Acres of Green difference

Not six random visits. One thoughtful plan.

Your lawn is a living system. Its needs change with the seasons, the soil, the weather, and how it's cared for between visits. Our six-round program is designed with that bigger picture in mind.

01

Soil-first thinking

We focus on the foundation beneath the grass, not simply a short-lived burst of green. Healthy, dense turf is our long-term goal.

02

Care shaped by the season

Nutrition, weed prevention, grub protection, and summer stress support work together across the growing season.

03

Honest recommendations

We'll explain what we see, what we recommend, and what results are realistic. No unnecessary upselling.

04

Personal accountability

We're a small, owner-operated business. That means real attention to your lawn and responsibility for the experience you receive.

05

Clear communication

Before and after service, we help you understand what to expect and when something needs your attention.

06

Progress, not perfection overnight

Some improvements are visible quickly; others take multiple seasons, especially when thin turf, shade, compaction, or difficult weeds are involved.

Our rules of the game

Exceptional results are a partnership.

We bring the professional lawn care. You bring the everyday care only a homeowner can provide. Neither side has to do everything—but both sides play an important role.

What you can expect from us

  • Thoughtful, professional service guided by your lawn's condition and the season.
  • Honest advice about what is and isn't possible.
  • Advance scheduling communication and updates when weather changes our plans.
  • Clear service follow-up explaining the purpose of the treatment and any important instructions.
  • Respect for your property, your questions, and your time.
  • Fairness and follow-through when something needs attention.

What we ask from you

  • Read our communications and tell us when something is unclear.
  • Mow at an appropriate height, especially through summer heat; we commonly recommend about 3.5–4 inches for tall fescue during the growing season.
  • Water appropriately, especially during drought and after seeding; we'll provide situation-specific guidance.
  • Share concerns early so we can respond before a small problem grows.
  • Follow preparation and aftercare instructions for services such as aeration and overseeding.
  • Communicate respectfully and keep payments current.

A shared commitment, not a list of demands. We know you're busy. Our job is to make good lawn care understandable and manageable. Your job isn't to become a turf expert—it's to help us follow through on the few things that truly matter.

Your first season with us

Here's exactly what to expect.

STEP 01

Tell us your goals

We learn what matters to you: weeds, thin areas, a healthier lawn, or simply having one less thing to worry about.

STEP 02

Review your plan and price

You'll receive clear information about recommended services and pricing before moving forward.

STEP 03

Get welcomed

We'll explain how scheduling, application updates, billing, and homeowner care work.

STEP 04

Receive thoughtful treatments

Our six-round program follows the needs of your lawn through the seasons. Timing depends on weather and conditions.

STEP 05

Stay informed

We communicate what we've done, why it matters, and when you need to take action. Questions are welcome.

STEP 06

Grow better together

We watch for progress, discuss challenges, and make recommendations that help your lawn improve over time.

The three values behind every visit

Our promise is as personal as our work.

Do the Right Thing.

Tell the truth. Make responsible recommendations. Stand behind our work and our commitments.

Do the Best You Can.

Bring care, expertise, preparation, and attention to detail to every property we serve.

Show Others You Care.

Remember there's a person and a home behind every lawn. Listen, communicate, and treat people with respect.

We're looking for the right fit, not just another address.

Our best relationships are with homeowners who value quality, appreciate straightforward communication, and understand that lasting results take teamwork. If that's how you approach your home, I think we'll work very well together.

Some important things to know

Let's make expectations clear from day one.

How scheduling works

We plan treatments around the season, turf needs, and suitable weather—not a rigid calendar date. We'll communicate your scheduled visit and let you know when conditions require a change.

How payment works

Our standard approach is pay-as-you-go: you're invoiced after service. We'll explain your rate and available payment arrangements before you enroll. Please keep your account current or contact us promptly if a problem arises.

What the program can—and can't—do

Fertilization and weed control are important, but they cannot replace good mowing, sufficient water, sunlight, or adequate grass density. Some weeds and site conditions require separate recommendations. We'll be clear about those limitations.

When seeding is involved

Fall aeration and overseeding require special preparation and follow-through. Fresh seed needs consistent moisture; commercial mowing should be avoided for the recommended establishment period; and weed-control timing may need adjustment. We'll provide specific written instructions before work begins.

Good questions, good answers

Before you get started

Do I need to sign a long-term contract?

We emphasize straightforward service and no long-term contracts. We'll explain the scope of your chosen program and how to make service changes before you enroll.

Will my lawn become perfect in the first season?

Every lawn starts from a different place. Some changes can be seen quickly, but rebuilding density and improving long-standing issues often takes more than one growing season. We'll be candid about what your property needs.

What if I see weeds or a problem between visits?

Tell us. Describe what you're seeing, and photos can be helpful. We'll review the concern and recommend an appropriate next step. Not every weed is controlled by the standard program, and some challenges require a different strategy.

Are treatments safe for children and pets?

We use products according to their labels and applicable regulations. Specific re-entry and other precautions depend on the treatment used. Follow the instructions we provide for each service; ask us if you have questions about a particular application.

What if my lawn needs aeration or overseeding?

We'll discuss whether it is appropriate and provide a separate recommendation. Successful seeding depends heavily on timing, preparation, watering, and protecting the young grass after application.

How do I know what I'm paying for?

We provide the price and scope of the service before enrollment and explain what is included. Our standard process is to invoice after the treatment is completed.

What if I'm unhappy with a result or experience?

We want to hear about it. We'll listen, investigate the circumstances, explain our findings, and work toward a fair response. Please also review our published FAQ and guarantee information for the current written terms.
